Does anyone know if current 8700 series devices will get VAD support with 4.2 or is this only on the 8100? I'm particularly thinking of the Verizon 8703.

Thanks

From what I have been reading here in the forums, the 8700 at this point won't support VAD even with 4.2

It's such a bummer. Voice dialing, esp. with a BT headset, is a great feature. Using something similar with Telenav can also be pretty neat (with the 7520 on Nextel).

My hope the next QWERTY blackberry is as thin as the Moto Q, has expandable memory (for mp3s, photos, larger attachments), GPS (for navigation) and voice dialing. It's getting silly to be behind the other "best-of-breed" smart phones.

Either that or a qwerty blackberry that's razor-style (where the screen is covered by a qwerty keyboard). That would fit more nicely on my belt like my old alpha pager used to.

I imagine that to enable VAD is more of a hardware issue than an OS. But it would be awesome to have VAD on the 8700s!

Could be wrong but my $.02

I think you are correct snowskier. From what the Platform and Device files are telling us, the 8700 and 8800 handhelds will not have VAD support (atleast it's not denoted as such, which it is for the 8100). There's no documentation or proof stating as much as fact, though.
