Desktop Manager and handheld linked?

Maybe a silly question here, but I've asked many dumb quesions before.

I just got a replacement 7100g (for my 3 day old phone)because the escape button keeps escaping...as in the button keeps getting jammed into the blackberry.

Anyway, will I need to use the new software that came with the new phone or will the current software I have loaded work? I guess what I'm asking is there any relationship between the disk that comes with the handheld and the handheld itself?

Just plug in the new 7100g using your old cable, old software...the Desktop Manager will detect a different PIN and update your handheld.

Don't forget to go to the Blackberry Web Client, Options and Change Handheld...you'll have to update it with your new PIN and ESN
