8703e USB charging problems

I have several USB cables that I used with my sprint PCS 6700. I thought they were standard USB cables. They plug in fine to the 8703e, but it does not show as charging in the screen when plugged in. I have the same problem with the two wall chargers that I used. The one that came with the 8703e (wall charger and USB cable) work fine.

Is there something unique about this USB cord?

SOme say yes and others say no. I have had a non-RIM cord not work before but others that did.
