I have a replacement 8700 from Rogers with firmware version 4.1.0.284(Platform 2.0.0.120) because my previous one running on an older version was broken. I had assigned one of the convenience buttons to open the address book on my old device but on this new replacement with the newer firmware the address book was not listed on the list of programs I can assign to the buttons.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions or fixes would be appreciated.

must be just that OS version I have upgraded mine to 4.1.309 ( I believe its the T-Mobile OS) and just confirmed that it works. just upgrade it if its something you want. you will have to delete vendor.xml so it will let you load another provider OS.

Some themes do not allow you to assign the Address Book to the convenience key. Try another theme.

how about disabling dialing from home screen and using letter 'A' as shortcut. It's almost as good having address on a convience key.

well some people want the dialing from home screen. plus then thats kind of a waste of a key you have on the side.

Thanks for all the suggestions. However, I was using the default theme and somehow the address book option disappeared from my list of applications that can be assigned to the convenience keys when I tried to assign it in the screen/keyboard section under OPTIONS.
