quiet makes the ring and alerts low volume, and off is off.. no noise/alert at all

Open the profile and check the settings. It may have been changed

By default, the Quiet profile will provide a visual alert for incoming messages by flashing the device's LED; the Off profile will provide no alerts.

Other than vibrate and blink it is not noticed by others unless the vibrate is heard. If you need to have absolute quiet why not just turn it off via the power. unless other options are needed like email. Seems like if your using the BB other will notice anyway

I use it in class and meetings to check the time and check for new e-mail or calls. Quiet is an amazing feature.

This is my same understanding. I have it on Quiet when I go to sleep and no rings or vibrates, etc except the LED flashes (which I want).
