Upgrading the software will NOT re-lock an unlocked BlackBerry.

I have an unlocked 8700g (T-Mobile) which I bought in Ebay. I want to upgrade it to 4.2 or the 8703 version because of the enhancement in contacts wherein you'll be able to assign small pics per contact. When I try upgrading this through T-Mobile site, it asks for a T-Mobile number, which I dont have. Where else can I download this? - Next is, can I really upload the 8703 version to my 8700?

That can be done only in 4.2, which is not available for the 8700 series yet.

I have looked high and low for a projected date on 4.2 w/ the 8700 series. Any date that you have heard?

No, you can't put the 8703 OS on the 8700. It's a different provider network technology. 8703 is EV-DO and 8700g is GSM/GPRS/EDGE technology.
