do the non oem leather holsters on ebay detect when the phone is holstered aka cahnge

It all depends if they put the magnets in them. Some have them, some don't. I'd ask the seller of the particular case.

Mine is the Rugged® brand leather holster and it does have the magnet in it to put the phone to sleep mode when holstered. I like the Rugged® brand because they warrant them with no questions asked. Outright replacement.

Some do and some do not. All depends. I have bought some that say they do and they did not. I like the OEM units.

I use the BB OEM leather case. I find besides having a proper magnet,that it's also the closest fitting case. In addition they sell them with or without the belt clip.

I can't remember the seller I have purchased from on Ebay, but they very soft lambskin, and do have the sleeper magnet, and excellent customer service. If you search ebay for "8700 lambskin leather" you will find it.
