Hey guys,

I tried purchasing an unlock code for my 8800 that i received at the launch event and he informed that he doesn't have the codes for those models.

Does anyone know of anywhere else that might be able to help i sent email to pretty much every unlocking site i knew of.

Also as a warning i have seen a lot of the launch event 8800s on line for sale be very careful if you intend on unlocking it.

Thanks to anyone that can offer any help

I was told by my Cing rep that they can't be unlocked for what that is worth.

I have also heard the same thing about the launch event handhelds that were given out. One of my contacts in the Rogers data department told me that this isn't the first time he had heard of this, he mentioned that there have been other BlackBerry models his boss received at launch events that were either unlockable or it took over 6 months before someone was able to get an unlock code for it.

When the 8700 launched they had the same restrictions. I remember lots of talk about it. I don't know if eventually they were "unlockable" or not.

Has any Cingular customer tried getting the code for theirs? Does anybody get theirs unlocked even though they don't really travel outside the US?

I travel outside the US all the time, and I have never had my BlackBerry unlocked. I have a few unlocked plain cell phones I use and just buy a pre paid SIM in the country I am in. I do have the BlackBerry Unlimited International plan so I can get my email and people who need to reach me can. The whole switching SIM cards just drives me nuts.

1. I successfully unlocked my 8700c twice, both within days of purchase. (I got one, exchanged for another one.) Today I unlocked my 8800c as well. (Successfully requested it. In my experience if u ask nicely they will do it for you. They send u an email with instruction, and it's free. I don't know why do you guys have to pay someone to do that. Anyway, I did roam in Asia last month, and I tolf them "I would like to use foreign sim card when travelling." At first they gave me a hard time, "we can give u a roaming plan." But I pressed on and they led me.

2. Per my earlier question, how does one get invited to a launch event?

Thread refers to launch 8800's and not purchased 8800's... In the past, Cingular couldn't provide unlock codes for launch devices either.

I will be visiting europe this year. Is the international plan something special? or is it something I need to request? Sorry, but my first BB is on the way. Thanks

you have to have a contact usually at RIM to get those unlock codes. My 7130c from the houston launch came unlocked.

Yeah I heard from someone else that the units from the event are unlocked because its once Cingular recieves them that they lock em. But when I put my tmo sim in it says invalid sim

I don't think Cingular even has the codes for the launch devices.

My firm is on Cingular. Hopefully I can get someone to swap with me so I can unlock mine and use tmo. I am in contract for 1,5 more years.

Just FYI, I've been having problems getting a valid unlock code for my 8100 Pearl. Our Cingular rep finally gave up and told me to order a new one and they'd reimburse me.

I hope I don't have the same problems with the 8800c!

You need to find someone who uses software and not simply call Cingular and check their list. I believe I have found one and will let you know.

Maybe they will eventulay get the codes for the launch berries. I wonder if they did for the launch 8700s
