I'm a newbie to be. I've decided to wait for the 7290 to come out, because of the added memory and Bluetooth, although I don't quite know what the advantage of Bluetooth is. Would someone be kind enough to educate me on what added functions are available through Bluetooth?

One of the most notable advantages of Bluetooth especially in the cellular world would be that its a short range wireless communication. Wireless Bluetooth headset are one of the crazes right now eg. the Jabra BT250 or wireless keyboards for that matter. Its an excellent tool for eliminating cables and integrating third party solutions.

bluetooth is basically a wireless connection to many things.

With full bluetooth you can sync with your computer by only being near it, now wire to plug in. You can also use the bluetooth handsfree options, whether it is the earsets or the new in-car options that Delphi and Visteon are bringing to vehicles in the coming months.

The big benefit to bluetooth is that it connects without wires. The drawback is that those wires are also the way that the battery gets charged.

I have read in previous posts that the bluetooth they want to release is only for using the handsfree options.

In all that I have read the BB Bluetooth will only support headsets due to security reasons.

Excellent reason....but I am pretty curious, though, since there's some things I'd like to know from the Bluetooth keyboard thread (http://www.blackberryclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=253):Yes, GOOD REASON BUT what's the security difference between bluejacking a headset versus bluejacking a keyboard? (i.e. equally difficult) Don't they have the same strong encryption now available?

Is there something about Bluetooth I don't know that reveals a security difference between a headset and a keyboard?

Isn't bluejacking a concern mainly only for addressbooks? You don't need to enable the addressbook to safely enable keyboard support...
RIM can just keep bluetooth addressbook permanently disabled;

Also, the BlackBerry technically supports Bluetooth keyboards -- it's just a software upgrade --just see this Bluetooth.Org webpage (http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Template2.cfm?LinkQualified=QualifiedProducts&Details=Yes&ProductID=1946) saying serial profiles are supported, required by bluetooth keyboards...

Its not so much an issue of a keyboard being more insecure, simply that both of them absolutely have to be totally secure and thus if they have limited time (in shops before xmas deadline remember) to make sure everything is perfect then the more important features e.g. headsets are obviously going to take priority over the nice to have but less important features.

Yes, that would make sense. This gives hope that it's possible to certify the BlackBerry as being safe with Bluetooth keyboards in the future.

It's very mightily true that the USA government (major BlackBerry customer) does not want Bluetooth sniffers listening to Bluetooth headset transmissions or Bluetooth keyboard keypresses :D

I sure would like to be able to upload my address book to my cars hands free Bluetooth phonebook. Any idea why that is crippled?

Security at this point I am 95% sure. If you have bluetooth in your car, someone with a laptop, about 5 minutes, bluesnarf program, and a BT dongle can get all yoru information, even erase it. Unfortunatly BT isn't as secure as many think. True it's more secure then 802.11 WiFi, it's still not as secure as wires.

Very true. That's why our client will not opt to get the 7290 or 7100 for the fact that they don't offer BT as an option.

This will sound like a stupid question.

I am having difficulty with my BB and my Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset. It is paired and allows me to speak when calls are answered from the BB but the multi-function button does not allow me to answer, mute or end calls from the headset. Is this standard BB7520 implementation?

My question was whether anybody had the Jabra BT250 in use with the BB7520 and if you could answer calls from the headset button or do you have to use the track wheel?

I have a 7520 and a Jabra 250. It's great, a long as the WIND doesn't blow ANYWHERE NEAR YOU!! Other than that, I can answer, end, switch, mute, etc. all from the button on the headset... Can't PTT though.

I'm curious as to how the Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset works (quality, as opposed to function), though... Maybe we could work out a trade. PM me, and we'll work it out.
