First of all I'm extremely annoyed that this device has NOTHING in the way of a user manual. Additionally, what I did find from both the Verizon and the BB website was for the most part unhelpful. I wish they'd put as much focus on their user manuals as they do on the plethora of accessory links on the websites. - Anyways.

I'm counting on BBForums.com to be the difference maker, again.

So one of my many questions is this:
I setup my comcast email on my 8703e. I can send and supposedly recieve emails w/o a problem.
My question is that on the main display, toward the top left corner, just underneath the signal strength indicator is an envelope with a number next to it (currently #3).

To me this means I have three messages. I checked my voicemail - nada.
I checked my comcast email - nothing. I don't now what these mean or how to retrieve the messages. ANY and ALL assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

I'll continue to search the forums as I have been, but at this point I'm pretty frustrated with the inadequate user manuals.
thanks in advance

You should have a "yourname@<hidden>" folder and a "Messages" folder. Did you check the "Messages" folder? From the "Messages" folder click the wheel and select "view saved messages." Many times messages get accidentally saved in there.

Also, these might help you:

Thanks John for your reply/assistance.
What I'm seeing is an icon on the main screen that is my "yourname@<hidden>" folder.

I open this by clicking on the icon and the next screen says "no messages".
I click again and scroll to "View Folder". The only folders in there are:

Browser Messages
Missed Calls
Phone Call Logs
SMS Inbox/Outbox
WAP Push Messages.

The "View Saved Messages" folder is empty. :?

You should have a folder labeled "Messages." Make sure it's not hidden. Click alt+click the wheel and check "Show All" if it's not already.

Note the links I added in the above post.

DING DING DING DING DING! We have a winner!
Thanks John. I'm also reading the links you attached above.

Answer this honestly: Was that an obvious solution? I would not think that such an important icon would be hidden. Regardless thanks for the assist.

John,
Here's another quick n00b question for you.
When I'm typing a message and I make a mistake in spelling, for example:
"Califoornia", how can I backspace w/o deleting the text to remove the extra "o"? I tried pressing the alt key then the delete button but it still deletes. WTF?

alt+roll the trackwheel will move the cursor horizontally on the screen. It will also move the cursor vertically on the home screen.

You can hide and unhide any icons you want (most anyway.) I hide and unhide stuff all the time. I just hide the stuff I don't want to use all the time.

Wow...5 dings! What did I win?

You win two more questions!!!!

I just downloaded Desktop Manager v4.2. I click on the Media Manager icon on the Desktop Manager and I get an immediate error saying that the DEVICE MANAGER MUST BE V 4.2 or later.

Is there a Device Manager v4.2? I couldn't find it anywhere. Verizon's site has V.4.1 as of 9/2006. Did a Goog search and only found Desktop Manager v4.2

I'm not sure what you mean as there's a 158 page manual for the 8703e here (from the BB site):

Just in case -- it's referring to the OS for your Blackberry. 4.2 isn't available for any of the Blackberries except the 8100 and 8800 right now.

The User Manual is on the CD that came with the device and is also onthe RIM site and should be on your carrier's site.

First of all I'm extremely annoyed that this device has NOTHING in the way of a user manual.

Look on the home screen of your BB and it will have a Help icon. This is an onboard manual which will answer nearly every question you could think of. It also have shortcuts, tips and all sorts of usefull info.

Cheers...

How can I successfully retrieve a deleted message? The scroll is tricky to maneuver and I mistakenly deleted an important email. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Was this deleted message tied to an Exchange server? I've found at times I can still goto my Outlook Desktop computer and find deleted items I deleted from the BB are still waiting to be deleted from the Outlook 2007 Deleted Items Folder.

Does your bb not prompt you to delete an item? If not check your general email options and Confirm Delete should be set for yes. Setting this gives you a second chance to confirm.
