Hi all
I have searched the forum but have been unable to find an answer. I have a BB 8700v (Vodafone) but, I have had it unlocked and an using Orange. Everything is working fine, but I would like to upgrade the firmware to the Orange version so that it looks like an Orange Blackberry with the correct icons and screens. I downloaded the upgrade from the BB website and ran it. It says that it has installed but nothing happens when I connect my BB and run the Desktop. Am I supposed to do anything? I ran the application manager but it says there is nothing to install.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Phil

You may have missed a crucial step here:

- Stop Desktop Manager
- Download the updated version of the handheld code
- Execute the program you downloaded
- Locate and delete VENDOR.XML from your PC C: drive
- Connect the BB and restart DM

Please note that you can not change the branding (startup splash screen) by upgrading the firmware. That is burned into the device.

Hi

Thanks for the quick response. I followed your instructions, but nothing new happened. One question. when you say delete VENDOR.XML, I find a file with my device number followed by .XML, is thisthe one I should have deleted? I couldn't find a file called VENDOR.XML.

Thanks

Vendor.XML is on your PC. That is the name of the file.
Are you sure you have downloaded the correct handheld OS for your device?

Can't find anything on my PC called Vendor.XML. I have downloaded a file called

8700M_PBr4.1.0_rel391_PL2.0.0.134_A4.1.0.319_Orange_UK

However, I went back and looked at the link I selected and it is for a 8700f and I have a 8700v. Is that the problem?

Thanks for your help with this.

When you go to Options / About on the 8700v, what version does it show.

When you connect the BB to the PC and start Desktop Manager, does it connect?

8700 code from any carrier will work on any 8700.

Oops, you asked if it connects to the desktop. It does. I have version 4.2.1.8 installed. I installed this as my PC is running Vista and would not work with the previous 4.1 version.

Thanks again

Not sure why it isn't working. Please search the C: drive again for VENDOR.XML (C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\RESEARCH IN MOTION\APPLOADER) and delete it. I am quite sure it is there...

Hey, found the file - just where you said it would be!! - don't know why the search wouldn't find it.

Anyway, thanks for all your help with this, I really appreciated it.

Thanks
Phil
