The screen on my 8700c has suddenly, I think, started turning off after 1 to 2 seconds of non-use although I have my backlight timeout set to 90 seconds. How can I fix this?

And what is the "autobacklight"? I saw this option in the screen/keyboard settings menu and it was turned to "on".

Thanks all.

I mean my entire screen goes black, not just the backlight.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd see if your handheld has the latest OS if not try updating it. Otherwise the autobacklight is an option so that if you roll the trackwheel or hit the green or red buttons the backlight auto turns on unlike the 7290 or 7250 where you had to manually turn on the backlight

I updated the OS to the latest cingular available and the backlight started reacting the same. I have tried everything except downgrading the OS. I belive the new OS has a bug . Hopefully some at RIM will offer a patch otherwise you have to live with it.

Thank you tsac for confirming what I already suspected, based on other peoples similar observations. That patch needs to GET HERE!

I had the same problem. Pulled the battery and it started working correctly.

I've seen this behavior a few times. A workaround is to go into your Screen/Keyboard setup and change the timeout and save it. Then go back in and change it back.

Has fixed it every time for me. The "fix" seems to last a month or more...

After I updated someone's 8700 to the newest OS it had this same behavior. Removing the battery for about ten seconds seemed to reset the timer and it started to work with no problem.

My wife and I each have an 8700c through Cingular, and I updated both phones with the .529 software.... her phone now has the backlight problem, but mine does not...

I do have bblight installed on my phone (she does not), but I usually do not have bblight activated. I am also using a different them (BB Insight-Icon) while she is using the Cingular theme. Other than that, our phones are configured pretty much the same...
