The USB post in my 7105T recently broke in the phone. I called T-Mobile and the phone was still under warranty. So they said they would ship me a new phone. The new phone arrives today and it is a Blackberry 8100 Pearl.

Not sure if they meant to do this or if it was a mistake.

What would you do? There are no charges on my account so it appears that they intended to do this. I did not ask for it and was expecting another 7105T.

They probably meant to send it. They make their money off of your service plan, not the device itself. And as mainstream products waterfall down it becomes more expensive to maintain the older devices.

I would just check and make sure that this in no way increases the price of your service plan, nor decreases you plan features.

The 8100 won't increase or change anything, I bought for my wife (used from a reputable seller on this board). I replaced her 7100 with it,

And since you asked the question, you should let them know, morally speaking-it would be the right thing to do. If you know the CS rep you did the warranty exchange with, they would likely know if it was intentional or not. Afterall, the 8100 is the upgrade from 7100. Tell them thanks for the surprise, you weren't expecting that, and that kind of customer service is why you'll be a long-time loyal customer. That should set a different tone for the rest of the call!

Agree with the post above. It may even be a refurb? Congrats on your new phone! ;-). I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.

I would call them and tell them the mix up.... they will probably just let you keep it.....

Thanks for the replies. I did call and turns out they meant to do it as they didn't have any 7105T's available at the time of sending.

Lucky me!

So now another ? Because the USB port is broken I have no way to get all my contacts off the phone.

Is there another way to send my contacts to an email address or anything like that? The last backup I took was months ago so I kinda need to get these.

Any ideas???

Thanks

Kewl! Congrats on the 8100!!!!!

You are out of luck if you did not do a backup / sync... If you still had the other device then there is another option.... But if it's gone, then so is all your data / contacts....

IF you still have the old device then check this out.... It's in the Linux forum but will work with any OS and it has a 15 day trial so you can use and delete it before you need to purchase it..... You will need it on the old device 1st to sync to the server then on the new and re-sync it back :)

Contacts? Possible.
All else will probably be lost.

You don't synch to Outlook or something like that? That is a very convenient way to have a backup.

I'm not sure if your provider may have a magic way of tranferring everything or not. It may be worth going in and talking to them about it. I was able to salvage a bunch of contacts from an antique phone when I switched to my 1st BB.

How many contacts are you talking? It is a very tedious process to use the SIM card, but possible. Also, SIM card is limited to 2 fields per contact, Name & Number. Sorry.

1) Copy your contacts to the SIM Phonebook. You have to open up each contact, scroll to the number, then click Copy to SIM Card, click save at confirm screen.*
2) After copleteing all copies, Swap the SIM card out of your old device into your new device.
3) This stage is easier, as there is an option in the SIM phonebook to copy ALL SIM contacts to you Contacts.

* - I would use your old SIM Card for step 1, even if they gave you a new SIM card with your new device. Reason being that deleting all contacts from the SIM card is a beotch. Just like adding them is. And you will want the SIM card space back since it competes with stored SMSs. So don't bother cluttering up your new SIM card if you dont have to.

And another thing, if your USB port is broken, you better try these options before your battery runs out!!!

Good luck!

Lunk's SW approach sounds much simpler!

Let us know how it goes.

Can't you do a Bluetooth sync on the 7105t? A cheap BT adapter, as long as it's Windows certified, should allow you to sync.

I tried to do the bluetooth sync between the 2 phone but it wouldn't work. The option is there but apparently RIM has blocked that function from working.

However the online sync mentioned above worked great after I logged into their website via a browser. I would not work before I did that.

Thanks everyone for the information!

Glad you got things synced, but I wasn't suggesting syncing between the two phones, I was suggesting syncing your 710x to your PC, then syncing to your new BB.

Oh I didn't realize. I don't think I have a PC with bluetooth. My laptop might though. Can you do syncs of all the contacts, calender, and tasks via bluetooth to a PC? That would be great actually.,....... I am gonna look into it.

Thanks
