I've upgrade my 8700r to use the 4.2.1.85 OS. I've been using it as a modem via the USB cable, how do I use it via the bluetooth. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Hi,

I don't think this is possible with the 8700. The BT on that is just handsfree/headset. I think you have to use USB....

Someone correct me if im wrong!

In fact, in 4.2.x for 8700, the BT includes dial-up networking, headset, handsfree, desktop connectivity, wireless bypass and dial-up networking

May be you can review this thread. I know it talks about 8100 but I believe the setting might be similar to 8700 4.2.x.

I suggest a search on tethering the 8700. There have been a myriad of threads and posts on the subject. Since I do not use that feature, I can't provide any info, but I do know it is here someplace.

I am currently posting this reply using my 8700g running OS 4.2 as a bluetooth modem. Follow the directions in the the first post of this thread to set up your 8700 as a bluetooth modem. Click here: 8700g as a Bluetooth Modem (http://www.blackberryforums.com/bluetooth-connection/73455-using-blackberry-pearl-8100-bluetooth-modem-under-vista-explained.html)

The one big advantage of using bluetooth to tether the 8700g vs. a USB cable (besides no cable being needed) is that you save the battery life of your notebook computer as when the 8700 is connected via USB, the phone is being recharged by your computer, which reduces battery life.

Anyone got tethering to work with an 8700C (cingular) and a Mac? I can't get it to work.

Again, use the search function and I think you might find a solution.

Thanks, I got it to work. Just one thing if you are the BES, you need to make adjustments to your IT policies and change "Desktop Connectivity" and "Wireless Bybass" to FALSE.
