View Full Version : Cingular/AT&T now allows Yahoo IM on the BB ... supposedly.

I know many people who use Cingular/AT&T have not been able to get Y!M to work on their BB without doing the crazy workaround. Well, a buddy of mine who works for Cingular/AT&T, called me up to let me know that Y!M is now good to go for all BB devices.

HOWEVER, I am still using the workaround and have not tested to see if it is indeed working - so, good luck!

Actually I didn't mention it because I don't use it, but my contact said both AIM and Y!M are now supposedly good to go. (y)

Ok, so I found the download on the BB site and installed with no problem. When I try to sign in, it gives me a pop up error telling me to visit blackberry.com/go/yahoo to activate my handheld for yahoo messenger.....

anyone know what I'm missing? I'm a new BB user (pearl on Cingular) and would appreciate the guidance. Do I need to somehow register on the BB site? Thought I've done this through cingular.bb.start email setup....?

Thanks!

Ok, so I tried re-sending the service books with no change. Hmmmm, any suggestions besides hard reset and starting over? (PS - how does one do a 'hard-reset' on the pearl?

I'm starting to think these IM programs are only allowed with the 8800's

Anyone get this working on a Pearl from Cing/ATT yet?

I have yahoo working but that is only because I was a T-mobile user - backed up my pearl and returned it to Tmo to come to Cingular. When I did a restore it kept my Tmo Yahoo service book. Wonder if I can do that with AIM also, since I never use Yahoo...

edit: ok tried to download AIM from my friends Tmobile Pearl and no go there either. So that rules out my thought above.

Just wanted to add my experience to the tread.

I am having the same problems with "visit www.blackberry.com/go/yahoo to activate your handheld for Yahoo! Messenger". I tried re-pushing my service books, but didn't help.

Why is Cingular/Blackberry/Yahoo Messenger so difficult?!?

if you read the fine print, it states that the yahoo messenger does not work on the cingular/at&t network.

Folks look. . . . If you are on Cingular the only applications from RIM that officially work w/out any mods are Google Talk and BB Messenger (although BBM is not officially supported by Cingular's customer service but it still works on RIM's network).

The other IM clients that RIM released (accidentally) about a month ago don't work either. However the RIM's Yahoo application does not work on Cingular's network either as originally installed from RIM (as spega indicated, read the fine print as it doesn't work on Cingular/AT&T network).

If you do want to have Yahoo working on your BB and you are a Cingular subscriber please go to this thread for detailed instructions on how to make it happen:

Cheers and best of luck!

Take your battery out for ~30 seconds and put it back in.

Yeah true. My wife had a problem with a Yahoo Messenger & e-mail downloads on her 8700c. She gave up and switched to Google.
