Is it possible to download the OS for the 8800 or the 8300 to the 8700 handheld?

Nope.
4.2.1 is the default for the 8800 which is now available for the 8700

You can try copying the files from one to the other after installing the handheld files on your PC but it probably won't work.

What are you trying to do? 4.2 is already out for the 8700.

For 95% of the cods it won't work. If you can get them to load on they won't be executable and many can actually impair basic functionality
