Hi I got a blackberry 7230 recently and switched sims, it was a tmobile phone, but I have cingular, its unlocked, but whenever I turn it on, it says that I am on the GPRS in the right corner, I do not have a data plan. I was wondering if I am connected to GPRS on the right corner does that mean that I am not using GSM when I call and text because I don't want to have a bunch of data charges for my calls and what not. Thanks.

Is it uppercase or lowercase GPRS?

If you don't have a Blackberry Data Plan, it won't (and can't) use data. If it's lowercase "gprs", it just means it's looking for it.

I'm surprised it doesn't say "data connection refused."

First of all, you can't place calls over GPRS and most carriers have disabled SMS over GPRS. Now, without a BB data plan you really shouldn't have uppercase GPRS next to your signal indicator. I'd call your carrier and confirm what is and what isn't provisioned on your account.
