View Full Version : Stumped even BB Tech support
Not even BB could figure this one out:how to set my mp3 files as customizable ringtones for contacts in address book on my 8830.Not as easy as you'd think.Spent over an hour with them on Media Manager trying everything. They have to "research this more, never had this type of problem before" and get back to me.(1GB media card formatted, etc.)
Hard to believe this is 1st time they've ever heard of this.

Wow, I've got about a dozen ringtones on my media card and have them assigned to specific people listed in my address book. What part of the problem that you're having am I missing?

Just a questiong are the file saved in the ringtone folder. Or are they saved in the music folder of the memory card. I have not found a way to get a custom ringtone without it being in the ringtone folder of the memory card.

You do it from the address book, not from the media application. Go to Address book and select the contact to add the custom phone tune to. Then select edit. Once in the edit screen hit the menu key and select "add custom phone tune."

How did you import them into your device? I downloaded a few mp.3 files into my C drive (download sub-folder). I have Redirector on my BB so I can't open attachments directly on my 8830. What was such a big deal for BB Tech to figure out was why after going into Media Manager and "Copying Down" files on their confusing page as it's divided into 4 quadrants, why the tunes weren't showing up when, in Address Book, and "add custome ringtone" none of the files were there.

A few people with 8830's have seem to have this issue. I've had them place the respective tones in the ringtone folder on the devices C drive, rather than the memory card...
Seems fine after that. But, like John Clark said, "You do it from the address book"...

You use browse on the top to enter those files.

Could you be more specific where you're using "browse" on top of what page?
Thanks

The media card must be formatted from the device and you have to put the songs in the "ringtone" folder on the media card in order to browse to them from the address book for a custom ring tune. I don't think you can get to them when they're in any other folder. The browse feature is at the top of the list of ring tunes when adding the custom ring tune from the address book.
