I have an 8800 on a BES server, and I also get gmail (forwarded) to it, all into the messages folder on the BB.

Until last night, if I deleted a company email, it would ask if i wanted to delete on handheld and on mailbox, but if i deleted a gmail, it didn't offer the HH and mailbox option. For gmail it would just ask me to confirm the delete.

Last night I updated to the latest device and desktop manager software.

Now, whether I'm deleting gmail or corporate mail, i get the "delete on HH and mailbox". Obviously, if I say YES to gmail, it doesn't delete it from gmail, just on the HH

Why the new behavior of asking me this about gmail?

You might have changed the setting inadvertantly, go to Messages, Options, Mail Reconciliation and double check your settings.

for both my BES account, and gmail, the email reconciliation offers the same options

message service name
delete on PROMPT
wireless reconciliation ON
on conflicts MAILBOX wins

For the gmail, should wireless reconciliation be OFF??

thanks

Somehow your setting got changed under Messages->Options. You can set it to delete on handheld, delete on both or prompt for any account. However, this option is pretty meaningless on BIS 2.0+. EVen on BIS 1.8 and earlier it would only delete from the BIS server (not the original email account) if you chose to delete on both.

Maybe on BIS 2.3 we will see some gmail reconciliation. For now the choice doesn't matter like on BES.

So for now, one cannot delete on handheld and gmail account together?

Yes you can but it's not bi-directional. Deletes only sync from handheld to server.

Thank you. I deleted the account and added it back. I think it will work now. I shall see shortly.
