Why is my blackberry email account getting all of this spam mail? I haven't registered anything using it as the email address. How can I stop this?

Thanks In Advance!

Are you forwarding any account to the blackberry via BWC or redirector??? If so the Spam is probably coming from there..... Oh and posting your bb email address (signature) in a public forum like this is probably not a good idea either.....

Either that its coming from something being redirected or possibly because you have your address listed on this or any other site. Broadcasting your personal nextel email is probably not a good idea.

Posting you email address is never a good thing, but my company had that same problem 2 days ago. We have 65 Nextel Blackberries (BWC account), so none of them are connected to each other and we all experienced that problem.

I just had everyone call nextel and have there email address changed because it was very annoying. The Teir 3 CC lady told me that the BWC server had been hacked and was affecting some, not all Blackberry accts.

Brian,

Also not a good idea to post phone # or even worse your DC#, because there is no way to stop someone from DC'ing you. Be careful with that info.

Well today I called Nextel changed my email address and fixed my signature. That was pretty stupid putting those in my signature. However, this was the only site that I had done that on. Only thing that sucks about changing my Email addy is that my boss in Lexington will be slow to put the new one on the mailing list. So, hopefully things will calm down now. I mean it was awful, I was getting like 25 mails a day. I couldn't keep all of them deleted long enough to recieve the messages that I needed to recieve. Anyways, thanks for the advice everybody.

No problem... just keep it quite. I would only use it to have things forwarded there. Dont give it to your contacts either. Cause then it will get sent in forwards and someone will pick up on it again.

Glad to see it all worked out. (y)

Yes, I would have recommended the email address change, but I can see you already did that. That happened ALOT while I was with my sidekick, and boy did that stink!

Dawg.... maybe you can do the right thing and edit your post to remove Brian's e-mail address.
That was a pretty crappy move on your part.

Well today I called Nextel changed my email address and fixed my signature.

You know, I saw this coming. I would have mentioned it, but I didn't want you to think I was picking on you or something.

Rules for limiting spam:

1) Make e-mail addresses that are hard to come up with by spam bots
Bad: bobjones@<hidden>
Better: bobjones12345@<hidden>

2) Never post your e-mail address on discussion forums or newsgroups (if possible) Those are ripe for the picking.
