Newbie: disable PTT on 8800?

New owner of a 8800 (never had a blackberry or cell before). I didn't subscribe to PTT and don't want it, but just with general handling I keep accidently hitting the button and getting the popup message window asking if I want to subscribe to PTT.

Is there a way to permanently reassign or disable the hardware button so it won't give me PTT messages anymore? I don't want to damage the device, I'm looking for a software solution.

Yes, in Options >Screen/Keyboard >Convenience Key(s)

You can assign the key to something that you use more often or assign it to nothing.
