Bought it last Monday, so actually I have had some time to mess with it. Previously, I had an 8703, which was an excellent device, but I just had to upgrade to the newest device!

• I am very impressed with the Verizon profile, which is super clean, and looks great.

• The display resolution is the same as the 8703, which I personally think is excellent.

• I have no lag switching between program applications.

• The ringer & vibrate volume is perfect for me.

• The ability to add / combine or separate folders within each mail account, and sms messages is awesome.

• Being I was a side wheel addict, the track ball has taken some getting use too, but is working out very nicely. Actually I think it’s a more normal hand position having your thumb resting within the middle of the device, than on the side of it.

• The thinner size is truly a positive factor, especially for those who love to just stick it in your pocket and go.

• The key pad is quite comfortable, and can I honestly say, it’s not that much more compressed in size than my 8703. After using it now for almost a week I’m very comfortable with it. Not to crazy about the blue back lighten, because it doesn’t make it super clear to see.

Hope this helps some folks who have been contemplating on possibly upgrading to the 8830. Obviously these encounters with my 8830 are my personal experiences and I’m sure others would beg to differ with how I view the different items I have discussed.

Enjoy Your Weekend……………….

Matt

I have to agree here. One of the first things I did when I got my 8830 last week was to look for and load other themes. After trying out a dozen or so, I found myself back at the stock Verizon theme. I love it too.

I was mistakenly sent the 8703 by my Sales Rep. (I asked for the latest Blackberry). So, I had that device for two days before getting the 8830. I can honestly say the 8830 is a true upgrade. Love the functionality. Great device.

I too had the 8703e for almost a year before purchasing the 8830 last Monday at a Verizon store. I like the improved interface, thinner profile, and quick response time. The VZW theme is my preference, too. And I think it's just a very slick looking phone. Everyone that has seen it asks me what it is.

Are the keys the same material as the pearl?

budah,

I personally don't know if the keys on the Pearl are the same as the 8830, because I have never owned or handled a Pearl, sorry!!

No offense, but how is this possible? Unless you walk around naked and the thing is duck taped to your stomach, it's not easy to feel. And seriously, I'm a sensitive guy. ;-)

I almost didn't upgrade from my 8703e to the 8830. But after a week of 8830 use, I am very glad that I did. The trackball is great (especially as you get proficient and can navigate the menu, etc in both dimensions simultaneously :).

Keyboard is not quite as good, but I can use it well after only a week. Backlighting/key color combo is bad, but if I slightly adjust the angle of the device when using it in the dark, it is fine for me.

I bought the seidio slim case before I had the device. I actually like the leather case better for my day-to-day use. I pop it in the seidio when I want to go ultralight (and the combo is very light - as previously mentioned by others I can clip it on workout gear and it is very comfortable).

Ring and vibrate are a little low for me. I almost always have it on vibrate, and have only missed one alert. I followed the other thread and called VZW to report my complaint about ring/vibrate.

At then end of the day, I am very glad I switched from 8703e to 8830. And I almost didn't do it. What pushed me over the edge was a comment from someone about bluetooth volume being much better on 8830. I can confirm that this is true on all of my devices.

Did VZW support say they are working on a fix for the ringer volume?

The person I spoke with (I followed the script exactly as posted in the other thread and got right through to a level 2 BB specialist with no fuss at all) had heard this before, and seemed very concerned and sincere with his response. He talked about the involvement of his supervisor and the engineering team (vague, but at least it wasn't the canned response). He would not venture an estimated timeline for a fix.

I just got an 8830 this week. Its my first blackberry and I think it's great.

Can't wait till they turn on the GPS and VCast for it.

I wasn't aware they were going to. Just got mine last monday, and it is also my first BlackBerry device. I admit it may be overkill for my lifestyle and work, but the phone's great.
