I have the 7100t with 3.8. I just downgraded from 4.0 because of inferior sound quality. The downgrade from 4.0 to 3.8 made a world of difference.

There are a few complaints about the 7100t. My previous T-Moblile phone was a simple Samsung X-105 candy bar handset. Very nice phone with excellent performance. The sound quality of the Samsung blows away the 7100t. Has anybody else compared their old phone to the new one?

Also, the 7100t has extremely mediocre RF compared with my Samsung. On the Samsung, I have service where the 7100t receives no signal. I've done an A-B test by switching SIM cards, and the 7100t just doesn't measure up.

That said, I do love the Blackberry and will stick with it. But I do carry my Samsung as a spare when I travel.

Most people will not agree but the phone is bad on the 7100. It pics up noise easily from the background and my freinds have a hard time hearing me. Reception is also bad. I have tried 4 units same result with 3.8 or 4.0. Overall I do like the unit because I hate talking into a "calculater" (7230,7290 etc)

Maybe I will try 3.8 again. Where can I get it?

The audio and reception on the 7100T with 4.0 is terrible. Everyone I call complains about hearing bad static. At least there is no static with 3.8 but the reception is still awful. The static is a firmware problem but there has been no firmware update since January. RIM obviously knows about the problem. Is RIM just ignoring its customers? I think so.

Gagetman...The sound quality issue is really a shame. I've owned a lot of phones, and I just love the 7100t. I do a lot of text messaging, and can literally type 30 words a minute. I can do about 4 on my regualr Samsung phone. For the life of me, I don't know how anybody uses normal cellphones T9 typing option.

My phone is now set on GSM because I'm not using the Blackberry mail client. The RF and signal strength is much better than GPRS. I don't know if the extremely mediocre outgoing sound quality is the result of poor equipment, bad firmware--I have 3.8 after dumping 4.0--or T-Mobile network problems. When I use my old Samsung phone, the outgoing quality is noticably better to the people that I call.

Does anybody know if poor reception is the fault of firmware, the hardware, or the network?

This phone gets worse reception than my Audiovox SMT5600 smartphone i used to hve on same network (T-Mobile). Sound quality is good though using bluetooth headset (how can anyone press this phone on your ear, very uncomfy).
