So Verizon released a upgrade for the outdated OS on 5-31-07 and I can't get it to work. I keep getting the error "Error reading setup initialization file" Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I have the same problem-- of course, I have tried several times to download the setup file and each time it comes down as approximately 250 kb, which is way too small for any software update. So I think the problem is on Verizon's side, not ours.

Even then, however, this update would appear to bring the version up to 4.1.0.452, which is still older than Bell's and Sprint's versions, not to mention not even close to the 4.2.X.X which was released for the GSM 7130 models (and includes the MP3 goodies). So if this is indeed the case, I'm going to be pretty upset at Verizon-- it took them over a year to update to THIS?

It is working, but it is the same version as before 5/31/07 with the working filename being:

7130eM_PBr4[1].1.0_rel229_PL2.2.0.98_A4.1.0.268.exe

And the one Jon and I tried downloading which didn't work being:

7130eEFSBP_PBr4.1.0_rel452_PL2.2.0.149_A4.1.0.344.exe

My email to them about this issue, besides noting that it worked for them (of course denying that I could have had any issue with the download) noted the following:

Verizon Wireless is committed to providing the very latest in products and services. At this time, we are unable to state if or when a 4.2 handheld software will be offered to Verizon Wireless customers. We understand and apologize for any frustration regarding this but we are only able to provide information regarding products or services that we are currently offering. We are unable to disclose any unconfirmed information because it would be subject to change and could raise expectations that may not be met.

Just a FYI as it is a bit interesting- I responded asking the software differences, and I received the following response from Verizon:

Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We are happy to assist you further with your Blackberry 7130 question about 4.2 device software.

We apologize for the confusion. When 4.2 device software becomes available, you will be able to download it from the BlackBerry™ 4.x Software Download (http://vzw.smithmicro.com/BlackBerry/) website. If you already had 4.1 device software in your device, then you did not need to download the 4.1 device software that is currently available at the BlackBerry™ 4.x Software Download (http://vzw.smithmicro.com/BlackBerry/) website, as there would be no difference between the 4.1 software on the device and the 4.1 device software is on the website.

(My underline added). Does this mean VZW is planning on releasing 4.2 for the 7130e?

Developing...
