My workplace is getting me a 8700r. I'm presently using a RAZR V3, would I be able to use the same SIM card in the Blackberry 8700r ? or is it a different type of Sim cards for BB's. I would be keeping the same phone #

You can use the same SIM card, but you have to have the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

NJ, if his workplace is providing the BlackBerry, they might have the BES also? He would not need a BlackBerry Data Plan seperately then, would he, if provided by the business?

But the data plan would still have to be on the account/SIM card. I don't care who pays for it. He wants to use a existing SIM card and didn't specify it is was his (personal) or corporate.

Yea, no matter what the account associated with that SIM will have to have the BB data plan added to it.
The physical SIM card is fine though. Mine began its life in a nokia 3595 and has been through a motorola v400, v600, a1200, and now rests happily in a BB 8700.

Yes, agreed he needs the Data Plan. He just doesn't need to rush out to buy IF it is being provided by his business.

The RAZR is a personal account and I guess I would be going to a corporate plan or whatever the company chooses but it would be a data plan as it would be used for emails. I was asked if I wish to keep my same #, which I did.
Thanks for all the info.

P.S The present SIM card is not on a data plan.

Remember that (in many cases) if you transfer your number to your company and later leave, they can keep your number.

Excellent point. We will transfer numbers to our corporate plans and back to the employee but not all companies will transfer a number back.
