View Full Version : Desktop Manager says it can't communicate

I've just upgraded from an 8700 to an 8800 and I did mess about slightly with the existing Desktop manager software and tried to restore a backup from the 8700 to my 8800.

Bad move.

My desktop manager now says it cannot communicate with the 8800 as the device is missing an application.

All the applications in the list match with another 8800 we have here.

Any suggestions?

If you put the original CD that came with the BB back in your drive and run the installation program, you see an option for "repair" of the existing installation. I would try that first. If that doesn't work, I believe you are stuck with using add/remove programs to totally remove your bad installation and then do a fresh install. At least that's what BB tech service told me when I had a similar problem.

Good luck.

Craig.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

This may work for you. It did for me. Open your windows device manager. Delete your usb ports. Right click and choose SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. The computer has since worked flawlessly with my 8800.

Cheers for the replies.

Re-installed the OS on the handset yesterday (sadly for a slightly older one than it came with) and it is fine now.

Just got to get Desktop manager 4.2 off, so 4.2.1 will install properly.. :?
