I searched the forums for this issue and couldn't find anything. If there is a thread, please point me to it.

Since the Curve and 8800 are relatively the same, will the OS from the Curve work on the 8800? It would be nice to have all of the updated apps and such on my 8800.

Thanks in advance.

I think it can be done, but I tried, and it didn't work. I did all the steps that I used to put the 8830 OS on my 8800 (which failed miserably) but DM didn't even recognize that there was any software.

so 8830 OS did NOT work on 8800? I've been wondering about this...

I don't see any possibility on this, just like 8100 os could not be used on 7130 devices, 7230 os not on 7290s. 8800 and 8300 are relative family members and have some simular features but there is no point that they can share same handheld software. 8830 verizon theme even could not be loadable on GSM 8800s, no wonder how much different 8300 and 8800 would be.

No, I had a Java error.

Please read this thread if you think the VZW theme can't be loaded on a GSM 8800c:

The 8830 OS won't work on an 8800 because the 8830 is CDMA and the 8800 is GSM. You generally can't swap OS's between different types of devices. I tried once to put the 7130c OS on a 7100t (both GSM devices) but that wouldn't work either.

Well, I originally tried based on previous reports that 8703e code had been loaded on GSM 8700.

Anyway, I'm just adventurous. LOL

Thanks for the correction, I just tried 8800 and 8300 device simulators, didn't play the 8800 in real piece. I saw 8830 Verizon and new Bell Zen themes work fine on 8800, goody goody. Yet I insist 8300 os won't work on 8800 you will get nothing new from 83s. Compare with 8800 the only thing new for 8300 is the camera that 8800 can't use.

The media player in the 8300 is supposed to be improved and its OS supports A2DP.

These features are exactly why I was hoping I could load the 8300 OS on my 8800. I'm surprised there is so much of a difference between the two devices. I can't believe that those features haven't been made available on the 8800 yet.

For what it's worth, I've tried loading many of the 8300 OS files onto my Pearl with no success. I;ve gotten so far as to have Apploader load the OS onto my Pearl and cycle through, but I always end up with some type of error (523 maybe?) and have to wipe and reinstall the OS. I've also tried separately with the bbmaps cods, the new bluetooth cod (hoping for A2DP support), the media player, and the spell checker. None of this worked, but at least the OS doesn't need to be reloaded entirely.

However, I was successful in loading the version of bbmaps that came with an 8800 OS onto my pearl.

It's up to the carriers to certify and release OS updates assuming that RIM has made them available to the carriers. In most cases we're waiting on the carriers.
