I use the Fox News breaking news alerts.
They are almost instant with new news stories.
Its the best I have used so far

ewww fox news?

I use newsclip which is free from the BB site and its an RSS reader that gets all the latest stories from whatever sites you want.
If you want a email alerts then you can just about pick any of the major ones, they should have news alerts that will be sent where ever you want.

Newsclip is fine, but I have to go to that program, and open the RSS feeds.
The Fox News alerts are almost instant (as the Basketball game ended last night, not 10 seconds later I got an email with the score!).
If you actually tried it, you would find that it is the best (and I have tried about all of them).
And, contrary to popular (misinformed ) belief, it isnt a right-wind propaganda newsletter, its just news :)

Have you tried Pico News? I have it and like it. It gives me the latest news from several sources and I can pick what news I want.

I did have the BBRSS reader but could never get it to add a feed?!*#@<hidden> :x

I liked Pico News, but I sent them an email with a couple suggestions and never got a response back. Maybe they're not developing the app anymore?

The last update was a year ago.

jbairdjr: How often do you get news items during a typical day? Do they store up if you have the phone off or do you only get them when the phone is on?

I dont get a lot. If it is a busy day I may get several, but usually just 2-5 a day.
Doesnt clog up my inbox at all.
They are sent as email messages, so they will be delivered when you turn the phone back on

This is exactly the stuff I like to find in these forums to help make my BB more useful....thank you. I've just signed up for Fox news. I really appreciate the fact that I can start off with a recommendation from someone who has already test driven it for me.

is there anyway to get ap new like that? I don't particularly like the way fox news presents the news to be honest.

or for tech news mainly which is all i read basically.

Or a really good aggregator that downloads the stories as I have horrible reception where I live and work depending on where I am. I don't mind paying once. Is there anything like feed reader for bbs?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/106)

You make check your spam filters. Going through Gmail, it flagged the email as spam the first time. I got a couple today.

I use foxnews breaking news alerts too and have been for quite some time. Better than RSS feeds becasue you get a message alert (email) from breaking news. It is just one or two sentences at most so there really isn't much to dislike about it. You can also try Emergency Email . . . . The Emergency Email Network ®. . . . . . . . . . . . NOW INCLUDED WITH the business continuity and disaster recovery resource on the web. (http://www.emergencyemail.org/) which I use for my desktop. It really doesn't give you breaking news but emergencies like storm warnings. The emails are long and can be frequent in a storm. Finally, there was a serivce I had with my pagenet pager that provided news alerts. It was "data something", if I think of it I'll edit my post.

You can also see what CNN and MSNBC offer, I'm sure they have something similar to fox news breaking news alerts if your taste is more left leaning.
