Deleting Addresss Book contacts in bulk

How does one select a group of contacts and delete them on the BB?

I have many entriies in Category X. I can filter on X and see them, but I cannot seem to highlight them all and delete them.

You can't. You can delete one by one, or the total book, but not a section or portion of the Address Book.

If you want to delete everything from the address book use the BlackBerry Desktop Manger BackUp and Restore feature. Choose Advnaced, click on Address Book, and select Clear. Address Book will be completely empty afterwards.

Once cleared, will they then reappear as shown in the Outlook contacts? I am on BES.
