I do a lot of things outdoors (especially bicycling) and it irritates me that the screen on my 8700g is so washed out in the sunlight!! I've switched back to my old 6230 for now and have ordered a new 7290 because of it's memory -- but why can't these newer BBs have screens that you can use outdoors?!?

I don't have any problems either with the sunlight for my 8700g. do you have your auto backlight on?? and what's your setting on the brightness??

turn autobacklight onI've experimented with the auto backlight on, off, and with different brightness settings. But it's the same problem I used to have with a 7100t I used for a while -- maybe it's just me going blind :? Thanks for the suggestions, but til I figure this out I'm headed back to the old screen -- ;-)

I don't understand this, for what it's worth. My 7100t was useless outdoors in daytime. The 8700g is night and day different, no pun intended. I have no trouble even out of the shade in full sunlight. Perhaps there is something wrong with your 8700g -- i.e. I know it adjusts to ambient light level --perhaps the sensor is FUBAR.

EDIT: Also, for what it's worth, I can see the backlight adjust when I move between my office (which is more brightly lit) and the hallway. If you haven't already, you might setup and experiment to see if your 8700g does this. If not, then it would suggest the auto adjust function is broke.

So now that I'm firmly back into the 6230 and soon 7290 because I can't see the screen on my 8700g in the sunlight, I've given the 8700 to my 18 year old son. I asked him if he can see the screen in the sunlight, and he said "Sure, Dad --". We walked outside, put it in the sunlight, and HE claims he can see the screen clearly while I cannot! :?

Maybe it's my eyes! Anyway, even so, don't you think the older screens are much, much clearer in sunlight than the new ones? C'mon, fellers, you gotta at least give me that!!

My first BB was 7100t. Can't judge 8700 versus any others. But seriously---no joking here---see eye doctor.

Here's a discussion on HoFo about this same problem.
