I am thinking about switching from Verizon to AT&T for the BB 8800. However, I have read alot about the "Squeaky Sides" on the 8800.

Is this true on all 8800's? I am a heavy BB user and having my BB squeak while I am typing emails or talking on the phone would drive me nuts....

Does anyone have a 8800 that does not squeak?

If so, I am going to consider the 8830 from Verizon...although i would like to get out of Verizon....

Thanks

I have no squeeks and my 8800 is 4mo old. Also, I am a crackberry-head!

its a manufacturing defect, latest batch of the Rogers branded 8800s the ones that are manufactured in Canada already have a sticky tape inside the side rails that prevent it from squeeking, older batches or batches that come from mexico etc might not have those, seems like some kind of a process breakdown somewhere on the RIM side that they need to fix, if you open the side rails, you'll see spots where they tape should be (little square marks) but someone dropped the ball and forgot to put them in, what a joke.

Its easy to fix though, just open 4 screws take side rails out, put electric take on two/tree places, close it up, and you should be all set.

I just put a tiny drop of high quality silicone lubricant [not wd40!] in the gap between the rail/body.

no more squeak

I've been through maybe 4 Cingular branded 8800s all which squeak after a few weeks.

I tried a few of the 8830s, and I was shocked at how amazingly sturdy, tight, squeak free these units are ... too bad I returned them due to voice echo.

So, imagine my surprise when Cingular sent me a new 8800 as a replacement, and it is one of the AT&T branded 8800s. NO MORE SQUEAK. None whatsoever. I think these, or at least mine, came out of the same factory as the 8830s and is rock solid. The difference is night/day.

My device is made in Mexico.

I too have an AT&T-branded 8800 that I bought just recently...in fact, this is the third one I have had (sold the first two)...and it is built like a vault. No squeaks or creaks whatsoever...and I really listened.

Mine is a Mexico-built device (as is my 8300 Curve), and it is one of the most solid phones I have ever used.
