active running programs in the background

I am a new BB user so please be patient -

alt+escape shows 5-6 running programs on my Curve, is there anyway of shutting them down completely? I've tried with no luck, thanks.

Sure press Alt+esc then scroll to the program you wish to close. When it's up press Menu>Close. Always use Menu>Close or you will have battery and memory issues. If you just hit the Red button it places it in the background.

True but if you don't use it I think that you can delete it...
