Has anyone heard when Office 2007 attachments will be able to be read on the BBs? I got a docx attachment that could not be opened last week and I wonder if any has any information when a software update would be coming.

What's the docx file type? A doc attachment is an MS Word attachment. That can be viewed on a 7100t - a lesser device than your 8830. Possibly your file extension is incorrect?

.docx is the standard for word 2007

you will need BES 4.1.4 before you can view these documents on a BB

Is there any third party software that can open .docx on the Blackberry without having to use BES?

Why MS does this I don't know. I use MS Office and BB. I set the options in MS Office to save files as MS Office 2003 - done.

Our organization has not migrated to '07 yet but this is a great tip!

DataViz will be coming out with a version of DocumentsToGo specifically for the Blackberry, and will include Office 2007 Documents:

Documents To Go for BlackBerry: Word, Excel & PowerPoint on your BlackBerry Smartphone (http://www.dataviz.com/products/documentstogo/blackberry/index.html)

Until then, it's best just to have Office 2007 save documents in Office 2003 format, as someone has already mentioned.

Not to get off-topic, but I had to download a file on my desktop to view the docx. What make it so special for word 2007?

The new 2007 file format is XML rather than the old proprietary Microsoft format. It is much more portable, stable and recoverable. Not to mention a fraction of the size.

Saving in 2003 format does not fix the problem you still get the same error if using the o2email push facility.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I will have to try. It seems that anything related to Office 2007 (including Outlook) is an issue

Musy is right, after doing some research on RIMS site I found this:

BlackBerry Search Results (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB13832&sliceId=SAL_Public&dialogID=44128078&stateId=0%200%2044124859)

After informing my boss about this; it appears that I might be installing 4.1.4 as well.. :?
