Hi,

Totally new to the world of Blackberries but a friend has asked me to look at setting one up for him for business use. To this end I'm looking at deploying the Enterprise Server Express product on his existing Exchange box.

What I need, and can't find, is some documents or articles which explain the basics of this product - how it works, how to configure it and so forth.

I've tried looking in the technical documents on the resource centre but can't find anything which gives a basic overview of how it is installed, how it integrates with Exchange and so forth.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Toby.

AT&T has a nice tutorial here: BlackBerry 8800 Tutorial - from AT&T (http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/tutorials/blackberry-8800/)

And of course BlackBerry's own hype: BlackBerry® 8800 Series Smartphone Wireless Handheld Device | Sleek Design with High Performance Features (http://www.blackberry8800series.com/)
and Tutorial: 101 Demonstrator for the BlackBerry® 8800™ Smartphone. (http://www.blackberry8800series.com/8800demo)
and Tips and Tricks: BlackBerry - Tips and Tricks (http://www.discoverblackberry.com/personalize/tips_tricks.jsp)
and Documentation: BlackBerry Technical Knowledge Center - Product Documentation - English (http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgecenterpublic/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/8067/645045/customview.html?func=ll&objId=645045&objAction=browse&sort=name)

That should keep you busy for a while!

Had a bit of a read and feeling more confident about BES now.

Have downloaded the freebie BES Express ready to install but am experiencing a bit of trepidation about installing it on a production server. Unfortunately there is no test box I can install it on really, so it's an in-at-the-deep-end job :(

Out of interest, before I jump in, how easy/difficult is installting BES Express alongside Exchange? Is it a simple install and configure of a few settings and you're done or am I likely to find myself in a minefield of configuration issues?

Also, how exactly does BES actually communicate with the Blackberry unit itself? (in the UK via Orange if that matters) I know very little about these things and wondered how the communication is handled - does BES connect to a main Blackberry server somewhere which handles the communication with the actual unit? How do I configure the BES server to talk to the mobile, is it just a case of putting in the PIN from the handset?

Sorry for all the questions but I'd rather know as much as possible before I jump in than hit problems during the install.

Thanks,
Toby.
