Hi there,

I am tethering my Blackberry to my laptop to use as a modem. I then use VPN software to connect to my corporate LAN. Problem occurs when a phone call comes in to my Blackberry. It seems to disconnect my VPN connection. Anyone know how to prevent this from happening?

Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

No. As the 8100 is a 2.75G device, voice and data cannot be handled simultaneously, and IF a call manages to come in, the data connection will be disrupted.

I am using VZAccess manager from Verizon to make this work. The place where I work is using this. The VZAccess manager does work but as I mentioned once a call comes in the data portion shuts down.

I am using with an 8830 phone, not an 8100. Does this make any difference?

No, it doesn't make a difference.
The 8830 uses EVDO/CDMA which cannot support simultaneous voice and data.
While tethered... if you get a phone call, one of two things might happen.
1. Call will be forced directly to voicemail and not interrupt your data session.
2. Call will pause your data session and ring through.

#2 is more likely to happen.

I've tethered my 8800 successfully, and gotten on the internet with it.

But, I've never thought about using VPN. As a BES user, when I tether won't I automatically be on the corporate network?

Is the VPN just for BIS users?

No.
Tethering as a BES user doesn't give you corporate network access automaticallly.
You'd need some type of VPN client on your computer to allow this.

No, it's not.
