Hello, I recently purchased an 8830 and so far I love it, however, has anyone experienced the signal bars going from full to none randomly throughout the day?I did *228 2 several times but its still happening. Doesn't seem to really affect service but still odd. Also I bought a san disk 2gb miniSD card. Doesn't seem compatible, anybody have any insight on this? Thanks

Mine does that all the time, but it doesn't seem to affect service.

The 8830 uses a micro-SD card, not mini-SD. I think you got the wrong size.

I meant micro not mini SD

Try formatting the MicroSD and check the setting in the device :)

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I agree with the comments about the bars. As far as the media card. I had little luck formatting card from device. I instead used the media card reader on my laptop to format the card. If you go that route, make sure your drivers are up-to-date.

my signal bars go from zero to full all the time too. i have a 1gb card in my unit and it works fine. i could never see myself needing a 2gb card b/c i use it only for ringtones and a few pictures.

Ughhh. I tried formating my disk and it will not let me format it. Then I inserted into the reader and the reader does not recognize it. Any thoughts?

I mostly lurk and don't post much - but I can confirm that my signal bars also go from 0 or 1 and bounce up to full signal all the time, especially while driving....

Signal bar issue is a software bug. Version .66 has this issue. The newest version of the software from Sprint does not do this.

Mine have done the same for a month now, but my reception is always great, and not one dropped call to date. I live in SoCal and always get great reception. Make some calls using the speakerphone and monitor the signal meter. If you press and hold "ALT" and press "N" "M" "L" "L", it will show you a numeric signal dBm meter, and good reception is supposedly from -50 to -90, according to one post. Not sure if this is true, but from my few tests, it seems to get very clear reception and strong signal all of the time. Gee, I am rambling....

PeterParker123, is it shutting down the system when you try to format the card? If so, it could be a bad/fried card. Can you try a different one?
