I am having a problem where the keyboard backlight on my 8803e (Verizon, BES) goes off. The screen backlight works fine, I just don't get the keyboard backlight in any lighting condition after this happens. The only way I can get it back is by pulling out the battery. Once I do this, the keyboard backlight may work well for as much as half day or as little as a few minutes.

This happens independent of whether I have Automatic backlight set on or off. My LED coverage indicator also tends to go away when this happens, independent of whether I have it set to be on or off.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

I haven't seen that issue. It reacts to ambient light seperatly from the LCD. What happens when you cover the LED with your thumb? (thats where the light sensor is located). When you cover it the keypad should light up. If it doesn't then I would say that you have a defective unit. If it does light up it may be normal function. It should only light in dim or dark situations (saves the battery)
