Welcome to the forums! Just about every question you asked has been answered several times over... Use the search feature and check http://www.blackberryfaq.com

You use desktop manager to sync and or backup contacts ect..

You need a BlackBerry Data Plan to access the internet and get email.

Use Outlook or Outlook Express for your calendar and and contacts on your PC, and then easily sync them with your BlackBerry via Desktop Manager.

Once you get the BlackBerry Data Plan from your carrier, you will have an internet browser on ypur BlackBerry.

As for the shortcuts on the BlackBerry homescreen, you can hide the ones you don't want, by highlighting over the one pressing ALT + Menu and select hide.
And, by the way, your word "wot" is actually "what", so now you know that, too!

Good luck.

not that i have seen, but i think you can make new "groups"

select menu while in address book, new group, then name it and then add the contacts you want

what do you mean like when you hit back and you have only 5 icons there?

if thats what you are talking about then all you have to do is move the ones you want there to the top if the main meny area(where you would show all or hide)

not sure if thats what you meant but....
