I am running a BES for my company since a few weeks, so I have very little experience with the BlackBerry environment.

Some of our BES users will replace their BlackBerry 8800 for a 8820 model. Do I need the BES Manager or BlackBerry Desktop Manager? How can I perform these task with minimal effort?

If you want minimal effort on your part... then just have the end user hook the new 8820 up to BlackBerry Desktop Manager (which is properly configured for BES) and it will ask them if they want to switch to the new device. They answer yes, and the new device is activated through DM.

There's basically nothing you, as the BES admin, would need to do in this case.

Another option is to simply Generate and EMail a new activation password for the end user, and have them do a wireless EA on the new 8820.
Also very little you need to do on your end.

Thanks, that's not much work for me as the BES administrator. Can I choose 'Wipe Handheld' for the old 8800 device?

You can, but I certainly don't recommend it in this case.
If you do the wipe on the 8800, then all settings and data will be removed and they will not come over to the 8820 when the new device is activated.

After the 8820 has been activated on the BES, then do a manual wipe on the 8800.

Of course that's what I mean.

Thanks for your explanation (y)
