Reply to international SMS does not work

Hi there,

hope someone here can help with this: I am in the US, with Cingular service. When I reply to SMS messages from an non US phone (in this case Norwegian) a 1 is somehow added to the number, so it reads 101147... "47" being the country code for Norway. I have not had this problem with any of my previous phones. Also, all of the Norwegian recipients to date are in my address book, so the name shows up, and not the number, on the incoming message. Neither Cingular nor BB has any idea how to solve this, but hopefully one of you do.

The workaround is to initiate a new message, and not reply, yet I refuse to think that in 2005 I need to do this. It is also a pain in the back...

Try checking Phone -> Options -> Smart Dialing for anything out of the ordinary.

Unfortunately, Smart Dialing seems to only pertain to calls, and not SMS.
