View Full Version : How much Free File Space do you have???

I have been having problems with my device slowing near 10MB free file space.

I researched and found a few ways to modify the .cod files in the OS to save some space. I did this by removing files for languages other than English and by deleting code files for preloaded pictures. I chose to leave all of my themes on my device incase I feel like switching one day.

After a soft reset, I now have 19.9MB free on my device. I feel like it is moving much faster and I am very happy. However, I have heard stories from people that they have gotten close to 30MB free on their devices by doing similar actions.

How much File Space do you have free? What software mods if any do you have?

Please note file space is with 0 applications open.

What do you mean by "VERY" lean? What have you trimmed and how? I am still trying to learn how to run my device even more lean.

GT, does your 8830 have the built in Spell Checker? You can see it in Options if you do. If so, you can jetison the Sprint Nextel spell checker.

how can i delete all enteries form the calander and force a re-synch

JSanders
08-15-2007, 02:07 PM
in the sync setup, there is an option to delete all on handheld, and then you sync Outlook back to it. That won't gain much space, though, unless you have a real full calendar.

Have you performed the steps in the link above?

RMS is things like pictures, etc, and maybe ringtones.

Just a reminder, I think the 8830 has a different amount of available space out-of-the-box than does the 8800, 8100, or 8300. I don't remember if there is physically less memory or if less of it is available to the user?

I've followed all steps I can find for increasing available memory on my 8830, including those linked to in this thread. I recently found the .cod's for the other vendor themes that are installed with the OS and removed those which freed up a good amount of memory.

d5coupe, I've been searching for the information on which .cod's contain the preloaded pictures, can you share this information or where you found it? Thanks!

Delete the preloaded pictures by deleting the files: net_rim_bb_media_240x260_b.cod and net_rim_bb_media_100_240x260.cod. Savings = 3.5 MB.

GT did you follow the steps in the link I posted? You need to delete the sample video and sample music file along with unused languages. This will clear more space for applications to be loaded and your phone will perform better.

I have done that but now my browser is not showing?? I did a reprovision but that did not help

It sounds like you wound up accidently deleting your browser... You can try connecting the DM go into application loaded and see if you can locate and load it. If not the carrier will have to send out the service book for it.

No browser, pull the battery and reboot.

Let me add also, I think you are being a little memory greedy. Forget about it for now and go enjoy your BB. 18 MB free is good.

reprovisioning took care of this issue, after about 5-10 minutes of being on the network
