I am a Nextel user (or Sprint Nextel I guess...) and I am wondering if these unit's that you see unlocked (like the 7100 series), will they work on Nextel? Or because it is iDEN I am stuck with just the crap phones that Nextel sells (no offense to the 7520 & 7510; I just am more in the market for a phone than a full handheld)?

Thanks for not reaming me a new one for my blatent lack of knowledge (y)

You have to use the Nextel blackberry on Nextel's network. 6510, 7510, or 7520 only.

The 7100 series are GSM/GPRS devices and will not work on the iDen network.

That is what I was afraid of :(

Yet another one of the many "gifts" of Nextel.

The Nextel i930 MS Smartphone has finally gone to the FCC for approval... if history is any indication that should be available in 60 Days or so.

I have started to research this...while the true 'push' technology of the blackberry in the 7100 series form factor would rock...I suppose that this is at least a step in the right direction...good thing I am out of contract...:)

**EDIT**
I know that this is BB forum...but just in case anyone cares...I think this is a picture of the phone i930 (http://store.bizshopr.com/i930.html)

Wirelessly posted (:laughs:: LGE-VX7000/1.0 UP.Browser/6.2.3.1.174 (GUI) MMP/2.0)

I had a chance to download the nextel powerpoint as im sure some of the others on here have. And it does show a 7100 series coming to nextel. I can not confirm it is actually going to happen but it did show sometime the end of this year or beginning of next. pink

IDEN was Motorola's proprietary attempt at mixing a trunked radio with TDMA but it's obsolete compared to CDMA2000 and GSM. I don't think anyone but Motorola ever made an IDEN radio and I suspect that nobody ever will. Sprint would probably love to see IDEN die. I'm going to miss my Direct Connect. :(

Direct connect wont die its too popular with Goverment and construction and service type industrys. In construction no one uses just a plain cell phone anymore. I have over 500 hundred contacts in my 7520 and all have a DC number attached to them.

iDEN is not going away. Read the press releases regarding the merger.
