View Full Version : Distinctive Rings

I was wondering if anyone out there that can program has thought or looked into the ability to have distictive ringtones for different contacts. This may not be as important to the business side of the blackberries, but for the new 7100t that is aimed at more than just businesses, I think there could be as great a need as there is for the themes. I hope someone who has more knowledge looks into this.

Thanks,
Hays

I am a Pocket PC convert and just received my 7100t a couple of weeks ago. I am just floored that this thing does not have something as simple as distinctive ringtones.

Anyone know of any future development to fix this?

It's the one thing I miss from my old Nokia. It was nice to assign tones to specific groups, like my company's managment, so I knew instinctively how much urgency there was to answer the phone! LOL

Could this be something they could setup with a new blackberry version? Or is this kind of hardwired into the phone itself?

I highly doubt you'll see this feature on a stock blackberry anytime in the near future. While the 7100 is geared more towards a consumer market, it is still primarily a business device.

I hope you are wrong :) Even as a business user, distinctive rings for personal and business calls is nice.

It doesn't rank in the top 20 for business users.
It is a consumer request....

A little surprising as I would think that even business users would want to distinguish between calls from "management", customers in general or "special" customers, and personal (perhaps as an indication to NOT answer it right then). That's how I've even categorized, prioritized and color coded my LN mail in LN 6.5.

It's true, the absence of this feature is rediculous. It's not that important I suppose but I imagine that it wouldn't have been that difficult to include. I don't believe that there is anything in the phone that would cause this to be a hardware related issue, perhaps someday in the future it could be added as an update, but don't count on it.

Actually we get far more requests from people asking that the ringer be louder, but I have not gotten one (and we have over 800 BBs) for distinctive ringtones. The damn ringer on the 7290 is so low, it doesn't matter what the ring tone is.

There is a world out there besides the 7100....

T-mobile actually has this service for there 7100t and other phones. It cost an extra $2 though. Up to you if you wanna fork out the cash...

Yeah, I have a bunch of ringtones which I get through Terratial's / Handango's ringtone megaplex subscription and I would love to be able to assign a ringtone for each particular caller. I guess this is where Treo is ahead. Oh well.

Treo has always had distinctive ringtones and pictures can pop up too for callers! Wow!

I carried a Treo....they may have distinctive ringtones but overall they suck.

I didn't care for the 650 I had at all. Terrible reception and the battery life was horrid! (n)
