Has anyways actually tested the bb8830 on a non-US GSM network?

i'm currently on vacation in the Dominican Republic where they have Orange as a GSM service provider (1800 frequency) and the bb8830 (by sprint (supposedly unlock)) recognizes the sim card, but it doesnt get any signal anywhere. i tried several different sim cards including the one that came with the phone and no luck. The cards worked perfectly on other GSM phones.

i did my research before travelling: Orange Dominicana S.A. - Network Information (http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/net_dotp.shtml)

Has this happened to anyone else?, or does anyone know whats going on?

i love my crackberry but this little issue felt like going to a rehab clinic. please someone help me out with this.

Are you in a coverage area for the carrier from which you got the SIM card?

Did you try the old pull the battery for 30 seconds and reboot trick?

Before my 8830 users left for their trips overseas, I had to call Sprint International care and have their SIM card activated for the GSM network. Once that was done the user was told to change their network to Global (Options -> Mobile Network -> Network Mode = Global).

Worked like charm, no additional SIM cards required.
