Does the Curve's trackball light up

I have searched for this and could not find an answer. Forgive me ahead of time if this was discussed and I missed it. I just received a Curve this morning. This will be replacing my Pearl. When I first turned the Curve on the trackball lit up. It does not light up when you press it like the Pearl does. Is this normal? If so I will miss that feature. Don't know why, I just thought it looked cool.

It reacts to the ambient light. If you cover the sensor (where the LED is) with your finger does it light up? Also, additional information. It only has white LED's so there is no way to install software that will make it change color.

It's light sensitive so it adjusts accordingly.

Thanks, I was able to get it to light up when I covered the LED.(y)

Unlike the pearl it only lights up in white. I had hoped RIM would continue to use the multicolor LEDs they used in the Pearl.
