I will be getting a 8707v (3g) from my provider here. Sadly thats the latest model they have and it will be another 2 months or so before they release curve so i don't have a choice.

I read the forums and found out that there is a 4.2 OS upgrade for the 8700 series. Can i upgrade the 8707v with the 4.2OS? My carrier doesn't provide the upgrade. Will i be fine using the update from some other company and just removing the vendor.alx file?

THis is the first BB that i am going to own, so sorry if the question sounds dumb.

Cheers

Hello, I already upgraded all our 8707v devices to the 4.2 Software. This is no problem. I have downloaded the firmware from Vodafone UK (4.2.1.94).
I only had problems with upgrading devices purchased in Spain and Italy. There might come up a message during the update process that there is no update available for the connected device. In this case delete the file "vendor.xml" and start the update again (program files\common files\Research in Motion\AppLoader ).
