Is it possible to pull the OS off of someone's phone? I'm still on the prowl for 4.2.2.66 for the 8830 and I know someone who has it on his phone, can I get it off there?

I have to ask.... Why do you even want .66?

No; not possible to pull the OS off of one phone to another.

The ROM is a one-way deal. No pulling off, just pushing on.

the .66 was the last working version for a proprietary application in our company - it doesn't work on the newest version right now (and won't until the developers figure out what changed). So I need to get my hands on the .66 version so I can roll back a few devices...

And the sound issue wasn't present on my device with that version, so that's a plus too :)

If you're REALLY DESPERATE, try using the Desktop Manager's Switch Device Wizzard. Is can copy the OS (along with everything else) from a source BB to a target BB of the same model.

If I backed up my device, then did the switch device wizard, can I restore my device even though the OS has changed?

The Switch Device Wizard does NOT move the OS from one device to another it moves the data and settings.

Heck if the switch device wizard did that we would have a real mess out there!

You can't move the OS from one device to another

Kind of what I figured when I saw taht the file was only 3.77 megabytes...

Gotta chime in here - the Switch Device Wizard does NOT move the OS.

I can't believe that no one has the OS on their PC. This was the last updated OS and EVERYONE downloaded it..

Does the CD included with the device contain the software in case you wanted to do a restore with it? I've exhausted every other source to find it. I actually had a guy on Crackberry.com who had it but couldn't email it to be because it's 65 megs and his site that he used to upload files limited to 60 megs... UGHH

I have 4.2.2.66 for the 8830.
Do you have an FTP site that I could upload it to?

Chichum

I have an FTP you can upload it to, Penguin.

I could then send Chichum the link to download.

Up to you to, if you don't find a better solution.

Running out a few minutes, back shortly.

JSanders will give you the link in a little while. I'm sending him the file now.
I usually have PMs turned off. The fact that you got one through to me was a mistake on my part ;) No offense.

No problem.
Sorry, I don't have the modded blackberry.alx for it.
You might be able to find that in this forum somewhere.

OK, the file has been uploaded to JS.

I've done it. I had 2 8700c (old 4.1 and the new 4.2). I did a switch device from the old to the new. When it was the new device got downgraded to 4.1 and all the software/data what was on the old device is now on the new.

At the time the only 8700c OS I had installed on my computer is 4.2.

Awesome!! I'm actually staying late at work right now for this. It's Friday, I'm here an extra half hour missing happy hour, but it's worth every minute!

You're awesome Penguin.
