Here are 5 random questions... Any you can answer will be greatly appreciated! I looked through the forum, but didn't find the exact answers I need...

1. Is there a quick way/shortcut to change the ring profiles? For example, if I walk into a building, and need to switch to silent/quiet mode, can I do it faster than going through the blackberry menu to the profiles icon?

2. Opera Mini keeps hanging on me, during installation. It looks like it completely installs, then I get an error message: "Failed to connect to internet..." Am I doing something wrong? I'd like to get that browser working...

3. Email: Is there a way to set it to check my email faster than in 15 minute increments? What is this "push" email I keep hearing about?

4. I'm on the new TMobile 8320 (love it). For whatever reason, when I'm not on wifi, my browser doesn't really work. It will work if I click one of the bookmarked links (cnn.com, espn.com, etc.), but not if I try to "go to" a web address. It gives me the pop-up box, saying this is a wifi feature. Is there a setting wrong? I know the EDGE network works, because programs like Google Maps works well...

5. What are your FAVORITE MUST HAVE applications?

Thanks!

Jason

PS- Please forgive my ignorance. I'm a bit of a newbie!

1: You could set your convenience key to the Profile icon so that you can pull up the menu a little faster.

2: Don't know, sorry

3: Push email is how a BES works - it instantly pushes the email to your device, instead of polling every 15 minutes like BIS.

4: Not sure...but this may help a little: Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Main_Page#Wifi_.2F_UMA_FAQ.27s)

As for must have, please do a search for that very phrase...you'll find LOTS of threads and lots of opinions. :-)

3. my Yahoo BIS is instant, not 15mins. I rely on it and my @<hidden> for things I need instantly sent to my device.

4. Your default browser is set to WiFi - open the browser, Menu -> Options -> General Properties. Change Default Browser to 'Internet Browser' -- when set this way it will use EDGE when no wifi is around, but when WiFi is on it uses that instead.

Since we brought it up... what are y'alls (is that a word?) personal opinions on the Pros/Cons of disabling dialing from the homescreen? It seems like I would get a lot more benefit out of disabling dialing, but I wonder what I'll lose?

(I've always just left it at the default, dialing mode)

If you have a QWERTY BB you should ALWAYS (DID I MENTION ALWAYS) disable dial from homescreen so you can enable SHORTCUTS - YES MY FAV 5 ARE ALL SHORTCUTS, and then you just hold the green send key a bit longer to dial. See my tips for all those homescreen shortcuts.

Did I mention that in 2 years JC will be getting an 8320.

ok ok, I'll learn the shortcuts! :) and because I wanted to get the shortcuts from the FAQ onto my device, I made a silly wallpaper out of it to help:

Home Screen Shortcuts - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Home_Screen_Shortcuts)

(yeah I want to look all cheesy wiki like) I think I'll go post this in the Media forum...

Rivvie, what a dang good idea, the wallpaper!
Y'alls are going to like the shortcuts. I use about 5 of the them constantly, day in and day out:
O Options
B Browser
A AddressBook
N Messenger
F Profiles

Which brings me to the "C"ompose subject. For me it brings up an email compose screen, for others the SMS-compose screen. I am not sure how the BB differentiates which, it could be the last used. So I fixed that on the FAQ to say only "Compose message". Which type, your mileage may vary.

1. Disable "Dialing from home screen." Use shortcut key F, then select a new profile. Or assign a button/hotkey (I suggest the PTT button on the left side) to load the profiles.

2. I don't know. I'd rather use a notebook computer.

3. Get a BES server at work. OR use Yahoo or Gmail. Those are near instant delivery due to the agreements Yahoo and google have with RIM. OR for your remaining accounts, forward a copy of your email to your username@<hidden> address.

4. I don't have a WiFi handheld, I don't know.

5. BES server, if you or your work can swing it.
