The getting started guide only says "charge the battery to full power", which makes sense, but doesn't answer your question about how long it takes. I think it took mine a couple of hours. I would say at least leave it for several hours.

You can check the battery level by going to TOOLS, SETTINGS, then STATUS.

when the battery i sfully charged on the 7100 while off, it will go from a blinking light to a steady light, when it is on, you will not see the thunder looking bar anymore when it is done, it is above the battery meter

The initial charge should sit overnight, in my opinion. Give it 10 hours or so. It won't top-up past a breaking point. Mark suggests fully discharging it atleast once, although I do disagree with that. Li-on batteries are designed to last, and discharging them will hurt their lifespan. They are not like cheaper batteries (NiMH, etc).

The opinion on a Li-on battery will vary from person to person, so go look at both of those threads for the best information you'll find on here concerning the charging and conditioning of the battery. The way I look at it is that you're battery is going to last longer than you will have the phone, most likely.

Wow, you can't be serious... charge it however long you want... it will not hurt your phone being that your battery is lithium ion... just throw it on the charger overnight and you are good to go... isn't that obvious?
