Default Review: Noreve Soft Leather Cases 7100 & 7290 - 12-05-2005, 05:19 PM

Noreve Saint-Tropez is a French company that you have proabably never heard of, they are however very popular in Europe and are slowly becoming popular in North America for their amazing quality cases, that not only care for your device, but also look good doing it.

Noreve's cases are made from soft high quality leather, meaning it wont chip or crack easily, the interior is lined with velvet, protecting your device from any abrassive stitching.

The cases are very well designed, and all the cut outs are right there where they should be. All stitching is complete and without a flaw. The screen on your unit is protected with a clear piece of plastic that doesnt appear to scratch easily.

7100V/G/X case

The case fits in prefectly without a flaw, there are however buldges on large contours where the leather can't wrap fully around the contour. There are only 2 of these contours on the 7100G (shown) that are noticeably. The case is very thin, therefore it doesnt really change the size of the unit like some cases would, and the keyboard is unaffected by the corners of the unit when typing. You have two choices of how you want to use the case, you can use the included swivel belt clip, along with the extended screw that the belt clip attaches to, or you can use the slip screw cap, and use the case as it sits, without a belt clip. I highly recommend, that if you do end up using the belt clip, to tighten the screw using a quarter or screw driver as tightly as possible, I have had the screw come off after a day of use, after tightening said screw, the problem seemed to dissapear. I really enjoy using this case, and will continue using it on my 7100G.

Overall, on a scale of 1-5thumbs, I give it 5 thumbs up.

7290/7230/7280 Case
Unlike the 7100 series form factor, the 7290 case is a little more bulky then it could be, but thats because of the flap placed above the case, in order to use the keyboard function, you must open said flap, which sometimes may be annoying for those of us used to whipping out our blackberrys and typing away. However, if your one of those people that glance on your screen every once in a while, or just reads emails without actually replying to them, this case is perfect, as the viewing window, and cut outs give you full access to the unit as a phone, the scroll wheel and back key. The fit and finish of this case is perfect, just like the 7100 series, closing up the flap however, is sometimes tight, if you attempt to do it in a hurry. You get three choices in how you can use the case. Provided with the case is the flat cover screw, so you can use the case without a belt clip, or you can use one of the two belt clips provided. One uses the screw hole to attach the belt swivel clip like the 7100 series, the other one uses three clasps to hold a leather belt attachement, this one is easy to take off, but will not swivel. The downside to the clasps, is that when wearing a jacket, its easy for the clasps to let go and loose your blackberry.

Overall on a scale of 1-5thumbs, I give it 4 thumbs up.

Excellent review. I hope you can post more product details on other case vendors.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for the review and pics. I just bought one.

The french credit card page was a little tricky, but it looks like I managed OK.

Hey Tom,

The second method is not for attaching to a belt it's a stand for your desktop.
Not a bad idea as you can glance at it to check alarms and reminders etc when left on the desk.

Great case and so much cheaper than the Piel Frama offerings.

After using the larger case on my 7290 for a week, here are my impressions:

1. Easy to use. I can get this out of my pocket without snagging it on anything, it will also go back in without fuss.

2. Adds very little bulk and weight. Almost unnoticeable.

3. the seam running along the edge near the underside of the device makes the wheel and cancel button a little hard to operate. Not enough to be a nuisance, but I do sometimes find the lip getting in my way.

4. I wish there was some option to keep the phone secure in the case with the flap open. It slides up and out relatively easily and I find myself adjusting the phone at least daily, if not more. I would recommend this for any upcoming revisions to the product they make.

5. The magnetic snap is fantastic. After having worked it in for a week I can get it to close and lock just by flipping the lid down and lightly brushing it against my leg before putting it back into my pocket. Very little work required.

6. I wish there were a hole for the alert LED indicator.

7. I wish they made a version without the flip cover, or that the flip cover were detachable. There are times it would be more convenient without a cover.

I give this product a 4.5/5. I use it without any clips or anything and I removed the metal screw on the back for absolute slim operation. No complaints other than what I found above. I would still recommend this to anyone with a 7290.

After a long hard look at my options I voided whatever warranty the case may have but I eliminated one of my biggest problems.

I widened the hole around the scroll button and removed the leather between the scroll button and the cancel button.

This alone made it 100% easier to use. It turns out it wasn't the lip of the case that was giving me trouble, but the fact that I just couldn't adequately get my thumb on the buttons I needed.

Looks like they sell one for the 7280, 7230 & 7210, which by BB tech specs are 2 cm thinner(?). This one is also on sale.

I have a 7250 (same size as your 7290). I wonder if it would fit any better?

I actually measured mine and I don't see that it is 2.2cm, measures just 2.0 on my ruler. This is the first time I've seen a different case within the 72xx series.
